• Classic funk album released in 1974. Fred Wesley was the trombonist and bandleader for The J.B.’s, the backing band for James Brown during the height of his career. This album is a powerful statement of Black pride and social consciousness, reflected both in its title and its music.

The tracks are filled with the heavy, gritty funk grooves that defined the era, with Wesley’s trombone leading the charge alongside Brown’s unmistakable influence. The album features notable tracks such as the title track Damn Right I Am Somebody, which includes spoken-word sections by James Brown, giving it a political and empowering tone.
