• Frank’s album “Strangers In The Night” reached gold status in the U.S., and “Sinatra At The Sands,” recorded at the Las Vegas hotel with Count Basie, approached that status. “One reason this product sold so well,” the Billboard article said, “is people’s inability to see Sinatra perform live. Because of heavy movie commitments, [he] has kept his nightclub activities to a minimum, and Ostin sees the LP as filling that void for fans who couldn’t see him live.”
  In fact, Reprise was so enthusiastic about what Ostin called the “exciting repertory approach” of the live album format that, as Billboard reported, the company has released two live albums in the last six months by Sinatra’s “Rat Pack” cohort Sammy Davis Jr.
