The Good Son' is a real contrast to the band's previous two albums, 'Your Funeral... My Trial' and 'Tender Prey' with a much more uplifting sound, apparently inspired by Cave's love for Brazilian journalist Viviane Carneiro and following his stint in rehab. His search for peace is plainly audible in these songs, which pick up where the most melodic tunes on 'Tender Prey' left off, laced with piano, vibraphone and choral backing vocals.
Track Listing:
1. Foi Na Cruz - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (5.39)
2. The Good Son - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (6.03)
3. Sorrow's Child - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (4.39)
4. The Weeping Song - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (4.25)
5. The Ship Song - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (5.14)
6. The Hammer Song - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (4.17)
7. Lament - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (4.54)
8. The Witness Song - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (5.57)

- The sixth Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds album presented itself in a different mood than its predecessors.Nick Cave had moved to Brazil to turn his back on drugs and let himself be inspired by the mood of the country. Unusual "bright" tones are introduced, even though this does not completely dissolve the melancholy that has become so fond of them.
