  • When XTC took the guitars off at the end of recording their last album to date, Wasp Star, Andy intended to become a songwriter in the traditional sense, writing songs for other artists. This was something he was approached to do during the XTC years, but never had time for.
You can understand the problems of this work when you consider the decision makers between the written song and a possible finished recording. But songs are, after all, like children. A songwriter gives them life, feeds them, watches them grow, and sends them out into the world. It's unfair to abandon them, like orphans, just because their first experience with the world was a traumatic one with a cold shoulder.
As is customary for loving parents, Andy got them all back together, re-edited them and polished them up
