• Chapterhouse was a British band that eventually became part of the burgeoning shoegaze scene along with bands like Lush, Ride and Slowdive. They only released two albums between 1987 and 1994, with “Whirlpool” being their debut.

  In contrast to their predecessors, Chapterhouse mainly used structures from electronic music, creating heavy yet strangely uplifting grooves. The album stayed in the UK album charts for three weeks, reaching number 23, and features the single “Pearl” with Rachel Goswell from Slowdive. Pitchfork in turn voted the album number 17 on its list of the 50 best shoegaze albums of all time.
