• The trio’s masterful interplay, which relies on sophisticated communication between the three of them and a refined sense of understatement, makes Fred Hersch’s third recording for ECM an indispensable contribution to the piano trio canon.

  Together with Drew Gress on bass and Joey Baron on drums, two long-time companions who have been playing with him on and off since the late 80s and early 90s respectively, Hersch takes on a handful of 20th century compositions – from standards to less frequently played jazz tunes. There are also three original compositions, “I feel like you can really hear the history on this record,” notes the pianist. “I hope people can feel the maturity of the interaction, the soundscape and the sensitivity in the playing.”
