• Marking the centenary of Pierre Boulez (1925-2025), this limited edition release presents Idil Biret’s thrilling interpretations of Piano Sonata No. 2, a defining work of post-war modernism. Paired with the Sonata Op. 1 by Alban Berg and Anton Webern’s Variations Op. 27, the album captures a vital chapter in 20th-century music. Biret’s performances, recorded in Paris and New York, reflect both technical precision and a profound understanding of the works’ structural complexity and expressive force. Boulez’s sonata, famously intended to ‘destroy the forms of the past,’ finds in Biret a performer equal to its intensity and intellect.
