Katatonia was formed in 1991 by Anders Nystrm & Jonas Renkse. Their debut album was released in 1993, gaining the band recognition for their eclectic brand of gothic doom/death metal & joining acts such as Paradise Lost & My Dying Bride as one of the genres defining bands. On future albums a more immediate & focused Katatonia sound came to the fore, starting with third album Discouraged Ones the main evolution point for modern day Katatonia before the band also integrated more progressive elements.

Originally released in 2001, Last Fair Deal Gone Down saw Katatonia ambitiously expanding their sound to create one of the most celebrated albums of the bands career.
