• In composition theory, a coda – from the Italian for drag, tail – refers to the final section of a work in which the leading themes are summarized. Jimmy Page appropriately titled Led Zeppelin’s last studio album, two years after the death of drummer John Bonham and the official breakup of the band, as a “coda.” The album’s eight tracks were previously unreleased songs, recorded between 1970 and 1978.
  The circumstances surrounding John Bonham’s death on September 25, 1980, made waves. In a bed in Jimmy Page’s house in Windsor, the drummer choked in his sleep on his own vomit. Excessive alcohol consumption was always cited as an explanation. The remaining members of Led Zeppelin quickly decided to break up the band. In a press release they declared it impossible to continue without Bonham.
