• The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion was the intoxicating sound of a band gaining momentum.
Funky, artlessly loud, loose and tight in perfect proportion, with pounding beats, churchy female background vocals and two guitars snaking around Chris’ raspy wail, it recalled everything from the Exile-era Stones to Nick Drake to the Allman Brothers. More than anything, though, it sounded like The Black Crowes. It entered the US Billboard album chart at #1.
“The album debuted at No. 1 and sold millions of copies and was our big hit in Europe. And I think for people who like the Black Crowes, it’s our best record, our classic album,” says Chris Robinson.
