• Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’s most famous song “I Put A Spell On You” was originally intended to be a blues ballad. But when he and his musicians got drunk in the studio, they played one of the hardest songs in the history of pop. He moaned, he wailed, he fizzled and snorted his way through the recording, which made the song extremely haunting – and caused some radio stations to refuse to play it. Either way, the song became a hit. The advantage of this: Screamin ‘Jay Hawkins was able to record even more songs which finally led to his first album “At Home With Screamin’ Jay Hawkins
With dancefloor bangers like “Hong Kong”, the rockers “Yellow Coat” and “Take Me Back To My Boots And Saddle” and the climax “I Put A Spell On You” there is doubt that this album is a killer.
